Our History

2012

Topa Electrical was born from the union of two trusted companies: Top Electrical and Ampere Electrical. Top Electrical was founded in 1992 by John Cheng, while Ampere Electrical was established in 2008 by Jeff Zhao, one of John's dedicated trainees, and Jeff’s wife Nancy Wang. 

With nearly two decades of industry experience, John earned the trust of countless clients. As he approached retirement, he saw in Jeff the ideal successor - someone who shared his values and commitment to exceptional service. In 2012, their businesses merged to form Topa Electrical, combining their expertise to serve customers even better. John officially retired in 2013, leaving the company in capable hands.

2016

With a mindset of continuous improvement - "improve 1% every day" - Jeff earned his electrical inspector qualification in 2016.

2018

Topa continued to expand and moved to a larger office on Shands Road in Hornby, Christchurch.

2019

We relocated to our new warehouse and office in Wigram – an exciting milestone for our team!

2021

Our team continues to grow! We welcomed our second full-time electrical inspector, Mark, and we’re thrilled to have him on board.

2022

As a milestone achievement, we have completed electrical fittings for 800 new builds!
